Learning to Learn: Specific Methodologies for Adults in Training at WiSP

In an ever-evolving world, the ability to learn effectively has become an essential skill, especially for working professionals in training. At WiSP, we recognize the importance of the concept “learning to learn”. To support our learners in this process, we integrate specific methodologies into our programs to help them develop this skill in a structured and practical way. In this article, discover what WiSP has put in place.

Learning to Learn: A Structured Approach

At WiSP, every learner in our short courses starts with an introductory module. This has been designed to provide key insights into the training they will undertake, but it also helps the learner organize their learning, manage their time effectively, structure their work, create a review sheet, and adopt an effective methodology. In short, it prepares our learners to approach their training with confidence.

For those enrolled in our WSET Level 4 Diploma program, we have developed a dedicated module on “Learning to Learn” with a facilitator. This module aims to deepen metacognitive skills and learning strategies that each learner must master to succeed in this demanding program.

What Methodologies Are Offered?

     1. Developing Metacognition from the Start

At WiSP, we believe that metacognitive development begins during the pre-training phase. That’s why we implement a pre-training questionnaire. This questionnaire helps learners reflect on their current learning methods, identify their levels concerning training objectives, and start the metacognitive process even before the courses begin.

    • Initial Self-Assessment
The pre-training questionnaire encourages learners to ask key questions about their learning approach: “What are my current methods?”, “What are my main challenges?”, and “How can I improve my learning techniques?”. This preliminary reflection serves as a springboard for continuous metacognition throughout their journey.

     2. Active Learning Strategies at the Core of Modules

In our training programs, we incorporate active learning techniques to ensure that our learners not only memorize information but also deeply and sustainably assimilate it.

    • Creating a Revision Plan: In our “Learning to Learn” module within the Diploma program, learners are guided in creating regular review plans, ensuring that concepts are revisited and mastered over the long term.
    • Preparing for the Exam: We provide key strategies for exam preparation, including how to practice independently or with classmates.
    • Active Engagement from Our Trainers: At WiSP, our trainers are committed to answering all our learners’ questions and even encourage them to ask more questions on the forum of our online platform. We believe that self-questioning and interacting with others fosters deeper, continuous learning.

     3. Organization and Time Management: A Key Skill

WiSP places great importance on learning organization. From the Diploma module onward, we provide learners with tools and techniques to better manage their time and organize their work.

    • Personalized Planning
Our learners are encouraged to create their own study schedules based on their personal rhythms and constraints. They also learn to set SMART goals for each step of their learning.
    • Prioritization Techniques
Nous enseignons des méthodes comme la matrice d’Eisenhower pour aider les apprenants à prioriser leurs tâches en fonction de leur importance et de leur urgence. L’objectif ? Gérer efficacement leur charge de travail.

     4. Collaborative Learning: Engaging with Peers

Understanding the importance of collaborative learning, WiSP has developed a dedicated platform for peer interaction in the Diploma program. This network allows learners to share experiences, ask questions, and benefit from the support and perspectives of their colleagues.

    • Virtual Study Groups: learners can form study groups to discuss concepts, share resources, and assist each other in understanding the material.
    • Constructive Feedback and Experience Sharing: the platform also offers spaces where learners can give and receive constructive feedback on their work, fostering continuous improvement.
    • Accountability Partner Approach: As part of our pedagogical approach, we encourage the use of an accountability partner, inspired by the “Miracle Morning” concept. In the training context, this partnership allows two learners (one from the Paris campus and one from Bordeaux) to support each other in achieving their goals. Every day or week, they motivate each other and hold each other accountable for their progress. This system fosters regular discipline, increased commitment, and better time management, while creating a positive and collaborative dynamic throughout the Diploma.

As you can see, at WiSP, we consider “Learning to Learn” a fundamental skill for success in today’s world. By integrating methodologies such as metacognition, active learning, effective organization, the use of digital tools, and collaborative learning, we provide our learners with the tools to become autonomous, adaptable learners, ready to face the challenges of their educational and professional journeys. Thanks to our dedicated modules and structured approach, we support each learner in their personal and academic development, ensuring they are not only prepared to learn but also to excel.
