WSET’s Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner- to intermediate-level qualification exploring wines of the world, suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts.
This qualification is intended for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines or those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. You’ll gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory, you’ll explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn the principles of wine tasting and evaluation.

Know the style and quality of wines produced from international and regionally important black and white grape varieties.

Understand how the production process can influence the styles of sparkling and fortified wines.

Understand the key principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine, and in the pairing of food and wine.

Upon registration at a WSET Level 2 Award in wines qualification, you’ll receive a study pack essential to your preparation.
It contains 3 items:
- The book « Wines: looking behind the label» which covers the whole program. This book is full of extremely useful information for you’ll keep using in your professional daily life.
- The « Workbook». It will help you in following the course (maps, resuming tables, etc.) and in your revisions (samples questions). You can take your notes on it directly during the course.
- Tasting sheet « Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine » which will be used during the course when tasting wines.
WSET recommends that a student should allocate a minimum of 28 hours of study to successfully complete the full programme. The hours will be a combination of taught (20h) and private study time (8-10h). It’s therefore very important that you read the book « Wines: looking behind the label» before the course starts and you’re confident with the topics which are covered. This will ensure a much more dynamic and profitable tuition time and a better group interaction. The course is only the last step of preparation to the exam.
