The “Analyzing and Evaluating Wine in English” training is designed for winemakers, oenologists, technicians, wine & spirits sales professionals, wine tourism agents, export managers, international buyers, and professionals in wine-related industries (coopers, cork makers, communication specialists, etc.).

Learning Objectives of the Training:

  1. Correctly use specialized English vocabulary from the wine industry

  2. Write analytical tasting notes in English assessing wine style, quality level, and price

  3. Build and deliver an oral presentation in English of a global wine range to meet a professional client’s request

  4. Prepare for and obtain the CLOE English language certification

  • Describing grape varieties, soils, climates, and vineyard practices
  • Wine production stages and their impact on style and sensory profile

  • Learn to taste and describe a wine in English: appearance, nose, palate
  • Primary, secondary, and tertiary aromas – texture, structure, balance
  • Writing comprehensive analytical tasting notes (price, aging potential, quality)

  • Build and deliver an oral presentation of an international wine range
  • Compare major wine regions and their styles
  • Advise professional clients using wine trade vocabulary on quality/price, terroir, aging, and cellaring potential

  • Pitch a winery: vineyards, cellar, production philosophy
  • Respond to open-ended questions on methods, service, and storage
  • Roleplay: present a wine orally and in writing after tasting

  • Mandatory legal mentions and packaging in English
  • International standards and protection of geographical indications
  • Label decoding and wine marketing vocabulary in English

  • Exercises on wine-specific English terminology
  • Targeted grammar, syntax, listening, and reading comprehension
  • Simulated professional situations (online)

  • Written assessment in English (2.5 hours) : 50 multiple-choice questions, open-ended questions, blind tasting of two still wines
  • CLOE language certification (1.5 hours) : 50 questions on vocabulary, grammar, syntax, expression, reading and listening, oral exam via video conference: introductory questions, role-play, and a discussion focused on the wine/viticulture domain
