Thisadvanced-levelWSET® Level 3Award in Winesqualification is designed to give a comprehensive knowledge of the factors that account for the style,quality and price of the principal still, sparkling and fortified wines of the world.You will also learn how to use your tasting notes to make objective conclusions on a wine’s style, quality and readiness for drinking.Uponsuccessful course completion of theOnline WSET®Level 3Award in Wines, you will be able to assess wines accurately on their style, quality and price. In addition, you will gain the in-depth product knowledge required to underpin highly-valued job skills and competenciesfora prestigiousworldwide careerin the wine industry. 


The Online WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines is available in English and divided into thematic modules taught over nine weeks. Ten hours of study per week are recommended to cover the online activities and the WSET® textbooks provided at registration. The course is delivered weekly, and regular access to and active participation in online activities is essential for this learning mode. However, there is no set connection time, as there is no real-time exchange or webinar.

HOW WILL MY COURSE BE CONDUCTED ?

Here are the different stages of the online WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines, from course registration to certificate validation.

I validate my registration with the support of the WiSP team.

I receive my access codes to connect to the e-learning platform.

The modules are accessible on the first day of the course, as indicated in my registration. I have unlimited access to the e-learning platform and can manage my progress at my own pace over the 9-week course duration (recommended study time: 10 hours/week).

This qualification is delivered as a group training session. As such, an educator monitors my progress and facilitates the group session. I ask all my questions in the forum to fully understand all the concepts covered in the modules.

I take my in-person exam at the Bordeaux campus: a closed-book theory examination (2 hours) and then a blind-tasting test (30 minutes).

Twelve weeks after the exam, I will receive my results by e-mail. If I successfully pass my exam, I will receive my WSET® certificate and lapel pin by post.

Identify and describe the characteristics of still, sparkling and fortified wines produced in the principal wine-producing regions of the world.

Gain in-depth knowledge of the leading regions and appellations of the largest wine-producing countries: France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Germany, England, Central and South-Eastern Europe, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, and South American countries (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru).

Demonstrate the ability to provide professional information and advice to customers.

Accurately taste and describe the key characteristics of the world's principal still, sparkling and fortified wines and use this sensory analysis to assess quality and readiness for drinking (ageing potential).

How does the online course work?

Upon enrolment to the online WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines, you will have access to the specially-designed WSET e-learning platform: the WSET® Online Classroom. The training content is mediatised and provided in various formats: text, video, interactive activities, and more. In addition, knowledge test questions are included throughout the modules to prepare you for the exam. An educator is available throughout the course to moderate online interactions, answer your questions, monitor your progress and support you. This qualification is delivered as a group training session. Using this dedicated forum, you can exchange with future classmates and discover the profile and background of each one. Peer learning from diverse backgrounds (geographical, cultural and professional) is an undeniable asset.

WSET issue 2, 2022

Gain an in-depth understanding of grape growing and winemaking technical aspects that influence the style, quality and price of wine.

  • Learn to taste and describe wines using the WSET® Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT)
  • Learn about wine labelling regulations
  • Learn about wine storage, service principles, and proper pairing of wine and food skills

Understand wines’ styles and characteristics from the main European producing regions through knowledge of their grape growing and winemaking practices (France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Greece).

Understand wines’ styles and characteristics from the major New World producing regions through knowledge of their grape growing and winemaking practices (USA, Canada, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand)

  • Know the production methods, main styles, and origins of sparkling wines (champagne, crémant, cava, sekt, prosecco, asti).
  • Know the production methods and the main styles and origins of fortified wines (port wine, sherry, muscat)

Prepare for your exam by practising with the help of revision exercises and a mock multiple-choice feedback examination to give yourself the best chance of success.
